We’re going on a “B” hunt

One of the best things that we’ve encountered as we’ve embarked on this homeschool journey is the wonderful community that comes with it! There are so many parents out there that are encouraging and have amazing ideas to share. Proverbs talks about gleaning from those with wisdom: Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning. Proverbs 9:9 When we started The Peaceful Preschool, we joined a community of like minded parents who are constantly sharing ideas and challenging each other! Iron sharpens iron, right? So good

Through the eyes of a child

I’ve always loved photography, but I’ve found over the years that because I take so many pictures for other people, I often don’t take the time to photograph our every day life. Sure cell phones are great for capturing those sweet little moments that fly before your eyes faster than you can capture them most times, but there is just something about a high quality image that make this photographer’s heart of mine pitter patter a little faster! So this year, I have been really trying to focus on utilizing one of the talents that God has given me… my

Preschool – Letter A (that’s a wrap!)

We just finished up our “Letter A” week for preschool. It feels like we had a lot of fun, but looking back at all the check marks on the syllabus, I know we accomplished and learned a lot in the process!! Looking for preschool Letter A inspiration? Check out what we did this week! Based on the recommendations from The Peaceful Preschool, we read three books this week over and over: How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World, Ten Apples Up on Top, and Apple Pie ABC. All of these books were super cute, and I found

The “apple” on top!

This week the kiddos have been so wonderful as we started a slightly new preschool routine with The Peaceful Preschool! After a lot of fun and a lot of learning, we decided to practice some of our new skills and make the recommended Apple Crisp recipe from The Peaceful Press. Yum! Yum!! Learning how to cook, practicing our fine motor skills, learning about the food we eat… There are so many practical reasons to cook with your kids, but overall it was just plain fun! Enjoying the “fruit” of their work… I think this was the “apple” on top of

Simple Science… evaporating salt water

This week we are on letter “A” with the Peaceful Preschool curriculum. While reading How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World, my almost 5 year old asked me how the character in the book was able to get to get salt from ocean water. (If you haven’t read this adorable book, it’s about a character collecting apple pie ingredients from all across the world.) Cue up… a simple science experiment! One of the suggestions for this week was to practice using measuring cups and measuring spoons. This is in preparation for the apple crisp we will be

Preschool – Letter A

We started preschool this past fall, and while we were loving what we were doing, I found myself getting into a little bit of a rut. What was once fun and exciting was beginning to become “old hat.” We were still learning. We were still having fun, but I was running out of ideas… especially ones that incorporated a vibrant 1.5 year old! I wanted a routine. I wanted fresh ideas. I wanted hands on learning activities. I wanted a curriculum that focused on reading. I wanted a weekly verse (we’ve previously done a verse per letter of the alphabet,
